Ep 54 | The Belief Mindset: Change Your Thoughts & Change Your Life

To put it bluntly: if you don’t have an internal belief system that supports your goals, you won’t be able to achieve those goals. Your beliefs are always driving what you can and cannot achieve in life. 

Most humans have approximately 70,000 thoughts running through their mind on a daily basis. And from the research, we know that 5% of how you show up in life comes from your logical, thinking mind and 95% of how you show up in life comes from your subconscious mind. Your beliefs reside in your subconscious mind, but most of us aren’t even aware of those beliefs because they were formed before we were even six years old.  

The good news is you can extract old, limiting beliefs and download a new set that will serve every part of your life going forward.

Kim I'm Kim Strobel, and this is she finds joy. I've struggled with overcoming adversities throughout my life, feeling defeated and not having the confidence to go after what I wanted. But within every adversity, it can also sow the seeds for something more in our lives. For me, that is teaching others to step into the arena of fitness, all while doing hard things, and reaching for more joy and happiness along the way. I'm a truth telling Real Talk happiness coach who believes in giving you the tools to create a life you love. Welcome to the zero fluff, no BS advice that gives you the small steps for big joy. So much of the time, we are all trying to create a change in our life, maybe we are trying to lose weight, or get back to feeling healthy. Again, maybe we're trying to start a regular exercise routine or attract a really good partner, maybe we want to launch our own business or start a side gig. The issue is, is that it's really difficult for you to be able to achieve success in whatever part of your life you want to achieve success if you don't have an internal belief system that supports your goal and what you want to achieve. So let me give you some examples of this. Because what happens is, and we talked about this a lot in my create momentum, and learn how to utilize a vision board workshop. But what we have to understand folks is that your beliefs are always driving what you can and cannot achieve in your life. So what we know is you have these thoughts, we've talked about this 70,000 thoughts running in your mind every single day. But so many of those thoughts are actually on default, you're not even aware that you're having those thoughts. Now, what we know about thoughts is that your thoughts are always driving and supporting what you believe to be true about yourself or your situation, or your skill set or your ability or your intelligence, your thoughts are that you feed yourself most of the time, those are turning into your beliefs. Now we know that your beliefs then become the actions that you do or do not take in your life. And so if I am holding a belief, for example, and I always use the running example, because I'm a runner, but if I'm holding a belief, in my belief says in order to become a runner, I have to have a certain size body, I have to be athletic, I have to, you know all of these things, then your belief system is never going to make you download the couch to 5k program and start running. But it's a belief system that is faulty. Because I know people who are completely, you know, non athletic, who are maybe 100 pounds heavier than me. And I see those people when I run marathons, and many times those people are running faster than me. So if you have a belief system that does not support, what your goals are, what you want to experience in your life, then you will never take the action to create that reality. One of my favorite people that I follow is Dr. Carol Dweck and Dr. Carol Dweck is the one that talks about the growth mindset. Okay, and so there's two mindsets, there's the fixed mindset. And the fixed mindset is you just kind of feel like you were dealt a certain hand when you were born. You either were born smart, or you want weren't. You were either born mathematical, or you weren't. You were either born with athleticism, or you weren't. You were either born with creativity and have the ability to draw or sing or dance, or you just weren't born with that skill. And so the fixed mindset believes that you either have a certain set of skills or you don't, and that there's really nothing you can do to change that. Whereas the growth mindset says, Hey, we all know there's a genetic disposition, right. I was kind of born a natural athlete. I wasn't born maybe a natural artist or a natural musician. But what we know is that with effort and drive and perseverance we can do Develop a lot of skills that we supposedly don't have. So for example, with running my business I, I didn't hardly have any business skills when I started my own businesses, but I can tell you that I've grown that area of my brain in the last five years in a really big way. And so the growth mindset is it says, Hey, you know, I'm more than just what I naturally am good at that if you apply effort, if you have drive, if you have passion, that you can grow any set of skills that you want to grow. So this is why Carol Dweck says, the view you adopt for yourself profoundly affects your ability to succeed. And I'm going to say that, again, the view that you adopt for yourself, profoundly affects the your ability to succeed. And so when she says, the view profoundly affects your ability to succeed, what she's talking about, is a belief system, you guys, she is talking about a belief system. Now I want to teach you a little bit more about what a belief system is, and how this is probably somewhat affecting your life. So we know that a belief is simply a repeated thought, a thought that is repeated over and over and over and over. And that's how it becomes a belief that you hold about yourself. So if you're someone who says, You know, I really want to make $80,000 this year, but you have a belief system inside of you that says, I'm really only capable of making 40,000, well, then that's exactly what you will achieve is the 40,000. You if you don't take on the identity of what you want to become, and you don't work with your belief system to support that particular goal that you have, that you won't probably be able to reach that goal, you have to have what I call the infrastructure. You know, in my 90 day coaching program, this is what we do, we go in, and we do the very deep work of changing those belief systems. You know, we do what I call like a software download, basically, we take out all the beliefs that no longer support who you want to show up as in the world, and we download through deep work a new set of beliefs, because those new set of beliefs are what are going to help you achieve what you previously thought were impossible. Now, I want to teach you one way that I work with belief systems. And what I do is I'm going to show you here because I want to make sure I am, you know, really good at explaining this. So again, a belief is simply a repeated thought in your mind. So as you think, as you feel, as you believe that is the same condition of your mind, in your body, in your circumstances. And what we know about beliefs is that almost all the beliefs that you hold about yourself, were instilled in you from your earliest days. Like, I think within the first five years of your life, there were a set of beliefs that were downloaded from your parents or the people you were around or your community or your culture or your school or your daycare, there were a set of beliefs, and those beliefs that you have probably long since forgotten about, they have their origins in your childhood, and they are really hidden in the very deep recesses of your subconscious mind. So you know, you have the conscious mind, which the conscious mind and we went into deep explaining of this in the create momentum vision board workshop, but you know, your conscious mind is the mind that that I'm using right now. It's the mind that is logical thinking. It's the mind that has thoughts. It's the mind that can critically think right. It's, it's the mind that says Hey, Kim, sit down in this chair and do a Facebook Live video. And so that's your conscious mind. And the subconscious mind is the mind behind that. And the way I explained this in the vision board workshop is if you look at an iceberg, and you see that there's like 5% of the iceberg that is hanging out of the water and that 95% said of the iceberg is below the water? Well, your subconscious mind is that 95% that is below water. And the subconscious mind is all about beliefs. It's all about your past programming, it's all about your emotions and your imagination, the subconscious mind is where you hold trauma that you don't even know is there, when you get triggered by something. The subconscious mind is where you hold your values, you know, the subconscious mind, you know, think, you know, beats my heart and pumps my blood, and in all of these things, it does kind of unconsciously. And so what we know is, the problem with you not being able to achieve more of whatever it is that you want in your life, is because we all rely on our conscious mind, our conscious mind, we're like, you know, put our head to the grindstone and do this and do that. It's I don't have willpower. That's why I'm not getting what I want. But it's really nothing to do with willpower, because 95% of what you are experiencing, is coming from your subconscious mind. Which is why in that training, we did a very deep dive on understanding what this up subconscious mind is responsible for. Because that's the part that we have to tap into, you have to learn to tap into your subconscious mind, which is where you hold your belief mindsets. And when you can tap in and start utilizing that magical sauce, then all of a sudden, you're able to achieve so much more than what you would without it. Okay, so when we're thinking about this, I want you to just to think about Okay, so if I have to work with my belief system, how am I going to reprogram my subconscious mind, so that I'm feeding my subconscious mind? What it is that I want it to believe? Alright, I know I'm going kind of deep in here, but stay with me, right? And so like the subconscious mind, it takes all the orders you give it, it has to okay. And the subconscious mind takes the orders you give it. And it's based upon what your conscious mind accepts and believes as true. So for example, if you're someone who goes around and you're constantly saying, I can't afford that, I would never be able to take a vacation like that. I wish I had a car like that. I wish I made more money. I wish I wish, what you're doing is your subconscious mind takes you at your word. And so it sees that you are not in a position to get what you want. In fact, you're feeding your subconscious mind, lack, you're feeding your subconscious mind, lack of like you're telling it. So your subconscious mind is like well, she believes that she'll never get that. So I'm going to go to work to make sure that her belief system is true, because your beliefs are always creating your reality. I want to pop in here real quick and tell you about the happy Academy which launches later this summer. I think it's time to start doing things differently. When I think back to where would I be if I had not taken action to become who I am now. The honest truth stuck right where I used to be broke, tired, exhausted, unfulfilled, and afraid to shine my own light? Yes. Now, I know some of you are watching, and I don't know if you're on the discussion board, or if you're in the comment section. But we know that that 5% of your belief system or whatever 5% is your conscious mind, okay, 5%. And 95% of what's happening in your life is coming from your subconscious mind 95% of what you're creating in your life is coming from your subconscious mind. And so this is just a teeny tiny bit of what I talk about, in my 90 day program, you guys, that is very deep work so that we can actually change you from the inside out. And what I mean by that is in order for if you're wanting to make a shift in your life, you have to change yourself at the subconscious level, you have to take on the identity of who you want to be. So I want to teach you one way to do that, okay. And one way to do that is through the power of affirmations. And an affirmation is simply a statement that you write that is in the positive. Now, when you write it, you want to write it by using the words I am. And we actually know that the words I am have a very high vibrational frequency. And when you say I am, you're taking on the belief of whatever that statement is. And so what we want to teach you is how to utilize affirmations. And again, this is something like Jim Carrey talks about this is something that Oprah talks about. It's basically how can I flood my subconscious mind with beliefs of what I want to for myself. And so for me, you know, I do my gratitude journal, and we talked about that in the happiness mindset training, but in my happiness journal, is also my affirmations. And I don't want to overwhelm you, because you guys, I've been doing this for years, but I currently have 15 affirmations that I write every single day. Now, maybe you choose three, I have the affirmations that are in my notebook. I also have affirmations over here on my office door that I look at, and I read, I have affirmations by my bathroom mirror that I look at, and I read. And so what I'm doing is I'm constantly flooding my subconscious mind with what is with with the identity of who I am. And so let me give you a couple of examples here. So my affirmation every year, I'm going to read you some of my affirmations. These are the ones that I write you guys, every single day, right? Okay, I am an exceptional wife, Scott and I have a close relationship with our college son, I am healed from panic and have mastered my fears. I am empowered. I am honoring my fierceness, while also loving and accepting my vulnerabilities. I am happy, healthy and energetic with a strong kick ass body. I am positively influencing the masses, you know, I, I these are affirmations that are important to me. And I'm not ashamed to show you guys that these are my affirmations. Okay. And so every single day now, let me back up. I'm not very good at doing my gratitude and my affirmations on the weekends. I'm really good at doing those habits Monday through Friday, but I kind of have a new different routine on the weekend. So I'm not perfect at this, but at least five days a week. I am writing this out. And as I write it out, I'm taking on the belief that that is the person that I am. And so what I want you to do is To start understanding that there is, excuse me, there is, you know, most human beings, Shawn Aker says are utilizing only about 10% of their potential, which means that 90% is up for grabs. So what I want you to do is I want you to start tapping in to that 90%. And the way that I want you to do that is by downloading a new belief system. And one way to do that is by writing affirmations. Now, if you're like him, I have loved what I'm learning this week. I want to I want to know how to actually like go in and do the very deep work so that I can create big leaps in my life.
