December Newsletter

By Kim Strobel

December 28, 2021

Welcome to the Kim Strobel Monthly Newsletter!

What's new in my life?

If you’ve been following me on the ‘gram, you would have seen that my gram is my person, my North Star in life.

She is 97 years old and I've had a standing Friday lunch date with her for 21 years. It started out with her making me her homemade chili and bologna salad for the first 19 years, but when I saw that she began to decline, we started going to our local diner for lunch.

She is the most faith-filled, spirit-filled person I know. And she has taught me so much about life, happiness, and faith.

This is a pic of her when she recently got a perm and was looking so sprite and beautiful

She did give me a good lecture this month though. I thought it might give you a laugh.

Gram: “Well I tell ya Kimmie. You just work too much. You get yourself all worked up. You don’t know how to stop.”

Me: “Gram, I’m getting better. I took a hike this morning."

Gram: “Well Kimmie your brain just doesn’t shut off and I don’t think you even know you’re working so hard.”

Me: “I really don’t think you’re giving me credit. I’ve done a much better job this year.”

Gram: (insert sneaky-I-don’t-believe-you- laughter) “Well, Kimmie you just don’t know how to do it any other way. You just do too much.”

Me: “Gram, I really like to work.”

Gram: (more laughter) “Well that’s for sure. I just really don’t think you’ll change because of your brain.”

Me: “Well lookie there, we finally agree on something.”

Wise words from a Gram.

Still getting schooled from her at age 47.

God, I love this woman.

Products I'm loving...

The Headband

I'm a runner, and I sweat...a lot. Add that to my very fine hair, and I struggle to keep any kind of headband in my hair. Until I discovered Halo Sweatbands. They actually stay on my head, and they absorb sweat! I love them soooo much.

All Things Dogs

Ok...so it was very obvious from my November download that you all love anything that has to do with dogs. I mean I saw where a bunch of you ordered that darn fish toy.  This made me laugh. It also must be why we are friends. (insert dog emoji). My dogs love these whole-grain rawhide treats.  They are thicker than the ones you get from Walmart, so they last longer. Oh, and fun dog/son fact, my 21-year-old son has his first "girlfriend," and when I met her she told me she's "highly allergic to dogs." Seriously? She does seem sweet though, but I am Spencer's mom who has rescued 133 dogs...just saying....😆

The Ultimate Razor

And lastly, I have struggled with finding good razors for all your parts. And I cringe at how much the replaceable blades are...until my friend recommended the Billie Razor. It's cheap, and it works better than any others I've had.

Books I have recently read...

The Wish by Nicolas Sparks

Open Your Mind to Prosperity by Catherine Ponder.

Quote, I'm Digging!

"On the other side of fear, lies greatness."- ME! (This is my quote.)

As you've probably seen from an earlier email, I know fear very well. I wrote about it in this blog post.

Fear is a powerful emotion.

It is often disguised as a shield that prevents us from doing things that could harm us. The real damage often comes from inaction caused by fear.

Many times we avoid being uncomfortable at all costs, but there is no growth if we remain safe on our lily pad.

Sooner or later, that caution and those fears that you think keep you safe and keep you from moving forward and receiving more in your life.

Fear has driven a big part of my life, making me so uncomfortable. It feels really terrible to me a lot of the time. And we can be fearful about a lot of things.

  • Fearful to have a difficult conversation with someone we love.
  • Fearful to draw a boundary with someone we are afraid to disappoint.
  • Fearful to allow our kids to mess up.
  • Fearful to pursue something different in our life.
  • Somewhere along the way, out of fear of ridicule or rejection, you started to tell yourself that it was okay not to go after what you wanted. You fill your head with negative stories that prevent you from learning, growing, and stretching your wings. You say things like, I'm not good enough, I'm not ready, or I'm just a __________ (whatever you are now), not a _________ (whatever you'd like to be).

But when I look back at my fears, I see that when I allowed myself to get uncomfortable, I changed the person I am...for the better.

This doesn't mean you might not fail, but if you don't try, you'll never know the potential that lies again. For me, I will always go through that door, and when I get to another one, I’ll go through that one also. This is just part of the journey to becoming a better version of myself.
