May’s Joy Newsletter

By Kim Strobel

May 30, 2022

Welcome to the Kim Strobel Joy Newsletter!

What's happenin' over here.

May has been quite interesting.  I had a couple of really hard things to get through that I'll talk about in a future issue. Things that were really tough, extremely disappointed, but with those things came new truths and growth.

So I had to coach myself a lot this month. And use all the things I teach others on myself.  One of the things I did was focus on all the goodness in my life. One of which is my 98 year old, Gram, that most of you know.

I joined her and three other nursing home residents for Thrusday night dinner at Oakwood Nursing Home. I don’t think I’ve ever been at Oakwood and not been moved by the people who work there and those who come to visit their loved ones.

One this particular day, one lady at Gram’s table had a birthday. She told everyone who walked by she was 59. I think she’s closer to 79. 😂

Every time she told someone she was 59, the lady across the table from her would look at me and roll her eyes as if to say, “Can you believe that crap?” I couldn’t stop laughing because it happened over and over and over.  🤣🤣🤣

I saw a loving husband visiting his wife. He placed a bib on her, rubbed her back, and made sure she ate. Then he handed her, her babydoll so she could hold it as he pushed her wheelchair and guided her back to her room.

I saw an entire family come to visit and love a family member who has cancer.
I saw the health care workers constantly serving the residents and interacting with them. Rubbing their backs, touching them with loving-kindness, and exhibiting genuine care. The people who love and care for the elderly towards the last leg of their life are very special people. This is a gift they bring to the world and a calling. ❤️❤️❤️

I am reminded each time I go there of what is really important in life. And that is LOVE. It’s as simple as that. Loving people and allowing yourself to be loved. 💞💞💞

And to not waste time and energy on grudges or people. I imagine this is a hard one for all of us, but life is a gift and we get to choose what we spend our attention and energy on.

Products my team is loving...(and their affiliate links)

I asked the Strobel Education team to share their favorite products this month.

A Little Spot of Emotion - 8 Book Box Set

Kudos to my team member, Jessa, for this great find. As you know we are all about Social & Emotional Wellness here at Strobel Education so when Jessa shared these books her son, LeRoy loves, I was all excited. These books teach about emotions (anger, anxiety, peaceful, happiness, sadness, confidence, love, and scribble), and how to have them and work your way through them. I don't think we discussed emotions enough when my kids were little but rest assured my grandbabies are getting these!

Total Detox Tea

Strobel Education consultant Dr. Kristie Ennis shared this item because one of her workshop participants shared it with her. It's a gentle detoxer to help move things along in the digestive department. Kristie drinks it before she goes to bed and highly recommends it.  loves this journal. It has ruled pages that are a bit thicker, inner pockets, and two bookmarks. I'm ordering this today because I've needed a new gratitude journal.

For the Men!

Bombas Men's Ankle Socks

My friend, Genia, said her husband loves these socks. I'm not new to Bombas because they are my FAV running sock as well. They are soft, durable, and just feel good on your feet. I seriously can't believe a sock can feel so different, but these do. Ladies, here are the ones I get.

Books I have recently read...

Mastery of Self

by Don Miguel Ruiz Jr.

I'm gleaning so many little nuggets of wisdom from this tiny book.

It's making me look at the beliefs I've been holding in my life and re-examine if they are really serving me.

Quantum Love

by Laura Berman

Dr. Berman teaches us how we can take responsibility for creating stronger, more vibrant marriages.

My favorite thing is that she helps us see how we can control the energy we bring to our relationships.
